I
drove this car to attend the Blessing ceremony in Bratislava from London
but the gearbox dramatically crunched up on the way to the ferry. Luckily
I had taken out insurance with the AA, something I've never done before
because I was carrying two passengers, one of whom was my church leader.
So we were able to complete our trip in two hired cars; one from Amsterdam
to Vienna and another from Vienna to Bratislava. This was much better because
we could share the driving and even though we were delayed by the breakdown
we arrived with more than a couple of hours to spare before the main ceremony.
I was amazed to find, on coming back, that my car was repairable for a lot less money than I thought. This photo is of us on our way back from the Czech Republic the following year with all the things from Marie's flat in Ceske Budejovice. Even though our car is very old (April 1977) it runs on lead free and has been all over Europe (Budapest several times, Frankfurt, Prague...). On this trip it was completely full inside and we had a roof rack too. Still we regretted not to bring Marie's sewing machine! I am the shadowy figure in the foreground and Marie is feeding something to Pavla. We still have our car. |
