GLOBE-TROTTING
artist Jerry Gordon is coming home to the Fylde — to display pieces of
work which have taken him 10 years to craft.
The former Thornton resident who now lives in London will exhibit paintings of some of the world's best known sacred sites at Blackpool's Grundy Art Gallery Jerry pledged 10 years ago that he would place on canvas images of 40 revered landmarks including Kashmir’s Shah Handam mosque and Istanbul's Blue Mosque. Most of the work for his special millennium project has been completed. |
But Fylde art lovers will have to
wait until May 1999 to see his exhibition in Blackpool.
The paintings will be part of a nation-wide tour to celebrate the turn of the next century. Former ICI worker Jerry has travelled to more than 45 countries to complete his ambitious mission. During his adventures he dodged a bomb blast by Kurdish terrorists in Istanbul and met world spiritual leader Dalai Lama in India. Jerry, whose family live on Wordsworth Avenue, Thornton, said: “I was delighted to get the okay from Grundy Art Gallery. |
“My work will be part of a nation-wide tour and I am very pleased that it will be displayed in the Fylde where I was born and grew up.” Vibrant By the time the exhibition is com-pleted it will include 40 canvases, five feet by three feet, and crafted with thick vibrant coloured oils.
