I don't know about the artist but the bridge in this painting is of the "Bridge of Sighs" Venice. To the right of the large square central building is an open space where executions were carried out. The prison buildings cannot be seen but are behind the building by the water's edge to the left of the painting. Prisoners would be taken from there to the place of execution under this bridge, hence its name. We can feel grateful, who are viewing this picture, as we still have an opportunity to graduate from this life with no regrets or sighs. |
